The Crucible

Why? Why were there so many bands? It was like a gauntlet of bands I didn’t care about just to see Kittie. Like a crucible even. Every time a band finished a set I said, “This is it. Kittie’s on next.” But nope. I’m used to like 4 bands, at most, coming on before Kittie. I can deal with that. But 7?! Yeah that’s right 7 bands came on before the headliner. The sad part is, the last 2 or 3 weren’t so bad. They had good stage presents and music to amp you up for the main event, but by they time the came on I was over it. Soil was definitely the best at pumping up the crowd.

Of course, for me, once Kittie came on it was worth it. I just let go of all that and enjoyed their performance. They played a good chunk of their new stuff and some of their older stuff. I’m kinda shocked that they didn’t play Brackish. Though I’ve heard ‘em play it a few times already, so I’m good.

Oh and they were sold out of most sizes for all of the shirts. I did manage to snag a small in one of ‘em, but too bad it’s not a tour shirt. Oh well, I guess.

As of now, I just need to recover.

Can I be anymore excited? I’m gonna go see my favorite band in concert tonight! I’m leavin’ work 2 hours early and going to head over to the Key Club in Hollywood to see Kittie! I cannot wait. Just super, über excited. And I know tomorrow my ears are going to be ringing, my heads going to be hurting, and my neck and shoulders are going to be sore, but it’s gonna be great. Ugh I wish I could bring all you guys with me, but one, I don’t have the money, and two, I know some wouldn’t enjoy it. But don’t worry I’ll have enough fun for 10 people. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Inside In The Black

I’m not one for two blog posts in one day, but I just wanted to take a break from some art I’m working on and come back to give an update.

After work I stormed out of the office and raced (traffic permitting) to my local Best Buy to pick up my copy of In The Black, and I’ve been listening to it since! In fact, I’m listening to it right now. .. Well not “right now” as you’re reading this (although I could very well be), but “right now” as I’m typing this. All I gotta say is; Wow! this CD rocks. So many good tracks on here. I can already tell which ones I’ll be listening to for hours on end and which ones I’ll be listening to only a bit less than those.

“Die My Darlin” is so good.  “The Truth” is a very pleasant surprise. Of course “Sorrow I Know” is excellent as is “Cut Throat”. “My Plague” *sighs~* I could listen to that one as I fall alseep. It has that certain, I don’t know what, that Kittie songs come with. Lot’s of them do, but I think this might be my favorite song on the album.

Check out Kittie’s MySpace to listen to some of the songs I’ve mentioned.

Oh! On a related note: The Kittie Forums requested that fans submit photos of themselves with the new album to be posted on their MySpace, and yup, I’ve submitted mine.

Bam!

Bam!

It’s already up. Well, back to doing this art thing.

Hello Kittie

Today just might be the best day of the year. It’s a day I’ve known about and have been waiting for for quite a few months now. That’s right, today is … Tuesday! But more than that it’s the day Kittie’s new CD, In the Black, hit’s stores.

For those that don’t know of Kittie; they’re a metal band, all of their members are women, and they rock. They also just happen to be my favorite band, which is a big accomplishment, cuz for most of my life I haven’t had a favorite anything.

If you haven’t listen to Kittie before then now is a perfect opportunity to check them out. Three songs off this album have already been previously released and they are head-bangingly awesome! So far my favorite is My Plague, but if these songs are a good indicator at what I can look forward to, then I don’t think I’ll be disappointed. I can’t wait to get my copy. You really owe it to yourself to check these ladies out.

Yes, this is a total contrast to all the cuteness that is AniMaid Café, but I’m a guy that has many different tastes. Pink is fine but sometimes I like to find myself .. in the black (oh aren’t I clever).

Introductions, J-Rock Concerts & 9

Being that this is my first post, allow me to introduce myself. I’m Sai, one of the hosts and the photographer for the AniMaid Café. I’ve never really been good at talking about myself, so you’ll just have to get to know me through the random post I’ll be making on this blog.

This past weekend was an interesting one. Went to see 9, attended a Glay concert, watched a good portion of the first season of Avatar AND I made, then ate a sandwich. .. Actually I’m just kidding I never made a sandwich.

I don’t really consider myself enough of a J-Pop or J-Rock fan to be giving a review of the Glay concert. I’ll just say that out of all of the J-Rock bands I’ve seen this year, I find Glay to be the better of ‘em. Their music sounds more like the type of music that I’d find myself normally listening too. Now if T.M. Revolution came to town, there’s a concert I know I’d enjoy.

As for 9 .. I’ll try to talk about it without giving away too much of the movie, being that it’s just after the first week it was released.

It wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be. I didn’t even walk into the theater with my hopes all that high. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good movie; it looked good, the character’s were complex and well flushed out, the environments were good. The main disappointment was in the fact that the story line felt like it took for ever to get off the ground.

I dunno, maybe the movie should’ve been longer than it was, but to me it just felt like the movie ended just as the story’s pace was picking up steam. Also another thing is that it was lacking that certain atmosphere that most other Tim Burton movies have.

The thing I liked most about it, is that it didn’t baby the audience with a totally happy ending. It was almost bitter sweet. If they tightened up all the loose ends then it might’ve ruined the message the movie’s trying to give. Also, there were also some parts of the movie that weren’t directly explained and you just kind of had to go “oooh so that’s why ..”

Would I recommend it? Sure! It’s a fun movie to watch. Other than those two gripes it’s a pretty good movie. Would I say it’s one of my favorite movies of the year? Nah

I’ll get back to you about Avatar once I’ve finished it.
